Makerspace Varaždin also carried out a series of workshops with pupils, focused on playing the Media Masters educational game.
The workshops were held in smaller groups, which made the whole activity more open, relaxed and useful for discussion. Pupils were introduced to the basic ideas of media literacy and then worked through the game in teams.
Through gameplay, they had to make decisions, discuss answers, recognise unreliable information and think about the media content they see on social networks, portals, video platforms and other digital spaces.
The point of the game was not just to win. The most important part was the discussion: why something seems trustworthy, how we check information, what makes a source reliable, and why fake news can be so persuasive.
The workshops showed that young people are very willing to talk about these topics when the format is close to them. A board game, teamwork and real-life examples made the discussion more natural and helped connect media literacy with their everyday online experience.
